What is the EEGS ?

The Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society (EEGS) is a professional society devoted to geotechnical and environmental applications of geophysics. As such, it provides a forum for discussing and improving the application of geophysical methods to a wide variety of problems normally considered to be within the realm of shallow geophysics.

Why has the EEGS been formed ?

Problems addressed by "high-resolution" geophysics typically involve heterogeneous media such as natural soils and artificial fill. They represent complex situation that do not readily admit many of the assumptions involved to simplify lower resolution problems. For that reason, adequate "high-resolution" solutions are often difficult to obtain and require the best talent that the geoscience and engineering communities can provide. EEGS has been formed to provide a forum in which those communities and their clients can hold a dialogue to define problems, disseminate knowledge and relate experiences. To receive more information about the activities of the mother society, visit their site An European section of the EEGS was created to assemble the European Geophysicists, Engineers and Geologists working in the area of engineering and environmental geophysics. The European section of the EEGS has the same objectives as the mother society. The European Section promotes the application of applied geophysical technology, especially in Europe. It provides a discussion forum for the European Scientists. The interaction between the two societies is important. The European section publishes its own journal, newsletter and organizes its annual meeting

Goals of EEGS-ES

The goals of EEGS-ES, as specified in the by-laws, include the following: To foster and encourage the application of geophysical techniques for environmental, engineering and mining applications; To foster education and research in these areas; To provide a means for communication between geophysicists and those who use geophysical data; To provide, through meetings, workshops, short courses and symposia, a forum for the exchange of the technical information; To actively represent the membership in all state and national initiatives that propose to regulate or register earth scientists, and to keep the membership informed on these issues; To work closely with other societies for the furthering of geophysics as a whole.

Advantages to join EEGS-ES

If you are a geophysicist, geophysical engineer or engineering geophysicist working in the geotechnical and environmental areas, EEGS-ES membership will keep you in contact with others holding similar interests and keep you abreast of the latest innovations and applications. EEGS-ES is the only society dedicated to serving the needs of the environmental and engineering geophysicist. If you are a geoscientist or engineer who uses geophysical interpretations to solve your geotechnical problems, then you should consider joining EEGS-ES . EEGS-ES will keep you in touch with the geophysical community and provides the information necessary to make informed decisions on the application of geophysical techniques to a wide variety of environmental and engineering problems. One of the primary functions of EEGS-ES is to bridge the communications gap between european geophysicists, hydrogeologists, civil engineers, and other groups using geophysical techniques to solve problems of the shallow subsurface.
